    Gsteig chapel
This name, as well as its actual name "Maria Hilf Chapel" make it clear why this chapel was built in 1565 (or 1577, soon after the Fuggersche trading post in Partenkirchen had been founded): the old Roman road required considerable effort from the carters and was quite dangerous on this piece.
So it was only right and proper, before and after mastering the dangerous section between Partenkirchen and Klais, to ask and thank God through his mother and to leave his donation in the chapel.
During the secularization in 1803, the chapel was torn down and only rebuilt in 1867 with donations from the population. In 1885, after restoration, Pastor Gundermann consecrated the new statue of the Mother of God in the Lourdes Grotto. The chapel has since been renovated several times. Our "Gstoag-Kurchla" recently received a new shingle roof and a new turret. It was financed by the savings and stopper club, the brewers' guild, innkeepers and butchers, residents of the Wigger houses and a few private individuals. The market community bore half of the material costs. Members of the savings and stopper club did the work on a voluntary basis. Thank you very much!

"Many carriages traveled very far here
in earlier times at the old Gsteig.
The path was rough, the mountain was steep.
So the carter asked God for salvation.
He has this little church piously
Built for the sake of God and Mary."
