The park-like forest area of Hambos is located near the center of Kerkrade. The VVV pond is located on the edge of the Hambos, between the railway line and the Hambosweg. This fishing pond was constructed in the 1940s by order of the Association for Foreigners Traffic. The pond is mainly fed by water sources present in the area and discharges via a toad pool at the nearby Anselderbeek. The VVV pond is operated by members of E.K.H. Golden bindweed used as a fishing pond.

The VVV pond in the Hamdal is getting a facelift. For example, the sludge and debris present is removed from the pond bottom. Part of the sheeting (bank wall) will also be removed and converted into a natural bank. In the spring, marsh and water plants will be planted and new fish will be released according to a fish water typology yet to be determined
