The map points to a different road; the Gortelseweg/Vierhouterweg in question runs from Vierhouten towards Gortel/Schaveren/Emst. The surface of this road has recently been significantly improved, but the optional cycle path alongside it is still in extremely poor condition. This is the main reason cyclists choose this narrow 60km road, which indeed meanders through a beautifully diverse forest. Beware, however, of aggressive drivers who drive far too fast and overtake irresponsibly, almost routinely cutting off cyclists.
