  • The two barrier-free trails, with a total length of almost 2 km and a maximum gradient of 6%, are intended to provide unrestricted mountain and water experiences at almost 2,000 m above sea level for everyone – from wheelchair users and hikers with limited mobility to families with strollers.Existing hiking trails will be incorporated into the design, thus greatly limiting the impact on nature. While one of the trails leads to the reservoir of the Brunnach Biosphere Reserve Railway, the second will focus on the theme of summit bliss. A summit sculpture by Bad Kleinkirchheim artist and sculptor Egon Gruber will be placed on a hilltop, and a portal will be built at the entry point into the core zone of the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve. There will be ample rest areas along the hiking trails and an educational trail on the subject of Speik. Thematic panels provide information about the uniqueness of this ancient medicinal plant called Valeriana Celtica subspecies Norica, which can only be found in the Nockberge Mountains between 1,800 and 2,300 m above sea level.

  • The family-friendly hike begins with a ride up the Brunnach Biosphere Park cable car. Once at the top, we turn right towards the Mallnock. In front of us is the Nockberge panorama: Mallnock, Klomnock, Steinnock, Falkert, Moschelitzen and Totelitzen. The view into the valley shows Bad Kleinkirchheim and the Kaiserburg on the horizon. Before we go steeply up the Pfannnock (for the keen: + 1 hour) we turn left to the "Red Castle". From there we can also see the "Black Castle" (iron was once mined here), the Nockalmstraße and the small Wolitzenhütte. The well-developed hiking trail leads us down the valley to the St. Oswalder Bockhütte. In high season there is a wonderful Kaiserschmarrn with "Grantn". Unfortunately we were closed on All Saints Day. So we float as if on clouds along the tree line back to the Brunnach Biosphere Park Railway (approx. 30 minutes). At the "Nock In" we finally get a rewarding snack before taking the railway down into the valley. Quite clear
