I myself am a resident of this beautiful, quiet village and therefore most of my routes will depart from Wakkerzeel. I hope that by following these routes you will get to know the beautiful region. The oldest known mention of the place dates from 1157 and mentions Wackersele. This name can be explained etymologically as the little house of Walchari. Wakkerzeel was a place of pilgrimage for centuries and has been a parish since 1577. 'T Schuurke is a small village café with a good reputation among cyclists and walkers
