The current rectory was built after a fire in 1752. The church got its present form around 1787. The daughter of the pastor Karl Gottlieb Vater, Auguste Vater, became one of the most important witnesses of the Battle of Nations in 1813. Tombs in the cemetery and the neighboring hospital museum are still reminiscent of one of the bloodiest battles in world history.
