Skywalk Sonnenstein Observation Deck

In good weather, there is a magnificent view, which begins on the left with the Kaufunger Forest and stretches over the Gleichen and the Göttingen City Forest to approximately Northeimer Forest (Wieter).

The western edge of the Sonnenstein is formed by a roughly 20 m high, almost vertical rock front made of shell limestone. The rock gave the sun stone its name. If there is good visibility, the forestless dome offers a wide view of the western Harz Mountains with the Brocken in the north, the Kyffhäuser Mountains in the east, the Ohm Mountains in the south, as well as the Golden Mark and the adjacent Leinebergland in the west. The northwestern mountain slopes, however, are forested.

The Sonnenstein viewing platform was built in 2017 and is 14 meters long.
