    Architect: Arthur Carius

Arthur Carius (* 1884 in Rothenschirmbach; † 1970 in Leipzig) was a German architect and civil engineer.

Borsdorf town hall built from 1928

Arthur Carius, the son of the factory owner Wilhelm Carius, grew up in Rothenschirmbach near Eisleben. Later he went to Darmstadt where he wrote his graduate engineer dissertation on the subject of ornamentation on Upper Hessian farmhouses in February 1910 at the Technical University. In this standard work, which is also his most widespread work, he shed light on the abundance and diversity of the ornamentation of farmhouses from the 17th to the 19th century. The motifs shown in the work are of supraregional importance and characteristic of many regions in Germany and Europe.

Its main period of activity falls during the German Art Deco period. Its town hall buildings are significant in terms of architectural history, with examples particularly in the Leipzig area. In the years 1928–1929 a town hall was built in Borsdorf near Leipzig. Further examples can also be found in the Leipzig city area, such as in Rückmarsdorf.
