The Wilhelminian quarter around Nehringstrasse has an interesting history of squatters. The houses on Nehringstrasse and Neufertstrasse were called “Bunter Block Charlottenburg”. A total of eleven houses were occupied around Klausenerplatz in 1981. The squatters wanted to prevent the planned demolition of the houses due to the Senate’s misguided housing policy and to preserve the social structure that had developed in the neighbourhood. “It is better to squat in a repair than to own something that is broken”, the squatters demanded on a poster at Nehringstrasse 34.

Also Charlottenburg, Prenzlauer Berg and other Wilhelminian style districts Berlin is far more beautiful than the suburbs of Paris. You might not see that as a tourist.
