Mason saw

Thanks to its favorable location at the foot of the Maurer Berg, there was enough water in Schaanwald to power a mill. This has existed since the Middle Ages. It had two water wheels - one for driving the mill, the second for a board saw or a pestle. In 1838/39, the municipality of Mauren built a board saw for the first time in order to recycle the wood from the Maurer forests. In order to make better use of the water, a turbine was installed in 1888 to drive a water wheel. In 1909 the saw received an electric motor so that it could now also be operated electrically. In the decades that followed, the saw went through eventful times until it was rebuilt at its current location in 1934. Until 1962 the saw was operated by a community sawmaker. Since 1996 the saw has been in the possession of the community again, which is trying to preserve it.
