Reputedly once the highest in England, the Weatherhill and Rookhope Railway connected the lead and fluorspar mining village of Rookhope to the Stanhope and Tyne Railway at Parkhead Junction.

Today, the trackbed has become a multi-use trail, enjoyed by cyclists and hikers alike. At Parkhead is a cafe and B&B with drying room facilities. Accommodation and places to eat and drink can also be found in Rookhope.
