It was the Hennebergers who transferred Münnerstadt as a parish to the Teutonic Order in the 13th century. The buildings have also housed the Henneberg Museum since the 1920s.
Unfortunately, the museum is currently closed (due to the pandemic).

From rhoen.info: The pentagonal renaissance building was originally surrounded by a moat. The Teutonic Order moved into Münnerstadt in the 13th century after the city had been fortified with walls and stone gate towers. Count Poppo VII von Henneberg (died 1241/42) had transferred the parish of Münnerstadt to the order. A house of his own is mentioned for the first time in 1257, and there is documentary evidence of a commander for 1274. The knights of the Teutonic Order, founded in 1199, like Templars and Johanniter, combined their monastic vows with the "pagan warfare" and pilgrimage protection - they were originally active in the Holy Land. Soon they also set up branches in German territory, the so-called comings.
