While the highlight is often referred to as a gorge, it is more accurately described as a picturesque waterfall and the small gully it has carved into the landscape. The Catalan term 'gorg' refers to the small pool at the base of the waterfall, which gives the impression of a miniature gorge. The main attraction is the 30-meter ephemeral waterfall that plunges into this pool.

The waterfall at Les Tapies Torrent is ephemeral, meaning it only flows significantly after periods of heavy rain. Therefore, the best time to visit is typically during the wetter seasons, such as late autumn, winter, or spring, following substantial rainfall. Checking local weather forecasts for recent precipitation is highly recommended before planning your trip.

The trails are considered quite challenging and technical. Hikers should expect very slippery stone floors, especially when wet, and steep, technical paths both to enter and exit the area. Sturdy footwear with excellent grip is essential for safety.

Beyond the impressive waterfall and its small pool, the area is notable for its beautiful natural surroundings. You'll find a magnificent oak grove (roureda) with around fifty oak trees, and a diverse forest featuring pines, oaks, holm oaks, and boxwood, particularly on the shadier northern slopes. The entire setting is a tranquil natural recreation area.

Due to the very technical and slippery terrain, especially around the waterfall, it may not be ideal for very young children or those with limited mobility. For dogs, while there are no explicit restrictions, the challenging and potentially dangerous conditions (slippery rocks, steep paths) mean that only agile and well-behaved dogs, accompanied by experienced hikers, should attempt the descent to the waterfall itself.

Access is possible from the N-141C road. Approximately at kilometer 11, there's a turn-off for Colònia Jorba. On the opposite side of the road, you'll find the path leading towards Les Tàpies. You'll need to leave the main path before reaching the farmhouse and turn right, then left through the oak grove to descend to the spring and waterfall. Parking is typically along the roadside or at designated informal spots near these access points.

The Upper Course of Les Tapies Torrent is located in a natural, somewhat secluded area. There are no immediate cafes, pubs, or dedicated accommodation facilities directly at the site. Visitors should plan to bring their own refreshments. For amenities and lodging, you would need to travel to nearby towns such as Artés, Navarcles, or Calders.

The torrent flows over bedrock, which is a key geological feature of the area. The ephemeral waterfall itself has carved a small gully into this bedrock, creating the 'gorg' or pool. The surrounding landscape also features the characteristic vegetation of humid environments, indicating specific soil and rock compositions that retain moisture.

The duration of the hike can vary significantly depending on your starting point and pace. If accessing from the PR-C 135 trail starting in Artés, it will be a longer excursion. From the N-141C access point, the walk to the waterfall itself is shorter, but the technical nature of the descent and ascent means it requires careful navigation and can take longer than expected for its distance. Allow ample time for the challenging terrain.

Given the challenging and slippery terrain, sturdy hiking boots with excellent grip are crucial. Dress in layers suitable for the weather conditions, as the area can be humid and cool, especially in the shade. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a first-aid kit. Trekking poles can also be very helpful for stability on the technical paths.

The 'gorg' at the base of the waterfall is described as a small pool. While it might be tempting, the primary purpose of the area is natural recreation and observation. There is no information suggesting it is a designated wild swimming spot, and given the ephemeral nature of the water flow and potentially slippery conditions, it is generally not recommended for swimming.
