This 3 m high wayside cross made of sandstone is a donation from Pastor Johannes Schaller, the long-time pastor of the Catholic parish of St. Martin in Ludwigshafen-Oppau. It stands on a spider in the fields and walking paths between the Ludwigshafen districts of Oppau and Friesenheim - together with two rest benches.A small plaque (on the left side of the cross) indicates that Pastor Schaller donated this wayside cross in April 1998. At that time he was priest for 40 years, pastor of St. Martin in LU-Oppau for 25 years and vice dean of the Ludwigshafen city church for 20 years. The regional press ("Mannheimer Morgen" dated November 2nd, 2009) shows that Pastor Schaller was very popular with his "little sheep". He died in 2009 at the age of 78.
