People call it the "Gonsenheimer Forest", which actually means "Lenneberg Forest". Either way: In Rheinhessen, which is certainly not blessed with forests, the approximately 700 hectare forest area is an almost magical attraction and probably the most popular local recreation area for Mainz residents. This can be seen from the number of visitors every year alone. There are around a million.

Walkers and hikers can use a 70 km network of paths. The Gonsenheimer Forest is also ideal terrain for joggers.
