Supposedly, the architect was inspired by the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin - this seems plausible when comparing the two churches

Candle village was first mentioned in a document as early as the 14th century. It is therefore quite conceivable that a stone church was already being built at this time, especially since two hooves for the pastor have survived in a castle register from 1450. Another reference to a previous building can be found in a historical tempera painting. It shows a church with a retracted chancel, a stepped gabled roof and round-arched windows. However, no documents are available from this building. In 1886, craftsmen tore down the previous building, which had become dilapidated, and erected the current building in 1898 according to plans by the architect Karl Hoffacker. Experts suspect that Hoffacker was inspired by the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin, which was completed in 1895, since Neo-Romanesque was considered the “national architectural style” at the time.
