Anyone crossing the Bergisches Land from valley to valley might get the impression of being in a mountainous region. Climb follows climb, making cycling in the Bergisches Land a real challenge for those with weak legs.

You need strong legs for the route from Oberselbach up to tranquil Bärbroich. The 1,300-meter climb starts off flat, but after the bend in the middle of the route, it drags on like the season finale of "How I Met Your Mother."

Until a few years ago, the route mostly led through dense forest, but the spruce dieback of recent years has also changed the appearance of the landscape around Bärbroich. And so the forest thins out towards the summit, like Tom Boonen's hairstyle.

In my opinion, the mental highlight of this tour is the climb from the Bärbroich exit. The incline is quite challenging after the heights we have already climbed. On this first tour I got off in between and, to excuse myself, took the photos and replenished my strength with an energy booster (banana) and then continued the tour ;). Ultimately, in my opinion, it is a thoroughly beautiful tour with well-spaced climbs and descents and really impressive landscapes. The final section of the route on the Rhine is an absolute highlight at the end for me, who have been living in Cologne for many years now :) Herry
