    Hiking

From the small plateau on which the octagonal chapel stands, you have a wonderful view of Chambery, the Massif de Belledonne and the Chartreuse with the striking Mont Granier, which only took on its current form through one of the most violent and deadly rockfalls in the Alps in 1248 received.

This second monument on Mont Saint-Michel was notably erected with the help of the Chartreux fathers, it is located on a promontory overlooking the old chapel and easily recognizable from the valley of Chambéry.

This mountain chapel was dedicated to Archangel Michael (German) / Michel (French). The name (from the Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often shown - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, occasionally also a lance. Along with Raphael, Gabriel, and Uriel, Michael is one of the four archangels who (according to human conception) hold the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the calendar of saints is September 29th.
