In 1713 the plague raged particularly badly in Upper Austria. However, the severe winter put a stop to her. According to legend, this plague column made of sandstone was therefore erected. The abbot of Lambach Abbey at the time, Maximilian Pagl - son of the Stadlinger Zillen keeper Balthasar Pagl - had the famous Trinity Church built out of gratitude that this plague spared the region.
