The special ship in the 27.5 meter class was built in 1992 at the Lürssen shipyard in Bremen-Vegesack. It is named after the northern tip of the island of Rügen. The name of the daughter boat CASPAR is reminiscent of the painter Caspar David Friedrich. Before the ARKONA was relocated to Warnemünde in 2003, it was stationed in Sassnitz. With the ARKONA, nine permanently employed and around 15 voluntary sea rescuers around foreman Karsten Waßner secure the sea area between Kühlungsborn and Wustrow with the busy sea routes to the Rostock seaports. The rescue cruiser is manned by four men around the clock and is ready for immediate use. In addition to ferries, cruise ships, cutters and other commercial vessels, there are also many sailing and motor yachts, as well as leisure and excursion boats, in the area.
