A visit to the Pyramid of Austerlitz is definitely worth it. Take a break from your trail run to admire this structure.

In 1804, the French general Auguste de Marmont had an army camp (Camp d'Utrecht) on this site in order to defeat the British enemy in the event of a repeat of the invasion of 1799. To prevent boredom among his soldiers, De Marmont let them building the pyramid in the fall of 1804.

De Marmont was inspired by the pyramids of Giza that he himself had seen a few years ago during a campaign through Egypt.
inspired by the pyramids of Giza that De Marmont had seen himself in 1798 during Napoleon's Egyptian campaign.

The total height is 36 meters, including the 13 meter high wooden obelisk. The whole was named Mont Marmont.

A year later, De Marmont went to Germany with his army, leaving his beloved building behind. In 1806, Lodewijk Napoleon, the French king of the Netherlands, changed the name to the Pyramid of Austerlitz.

Today you can climb the Pyramid via a staircase of 81 steps for a small entrance fee.
