In Herenthout you can discover the castle of Herlaar in a wooded area. The airlock, dating from the 13th century, is surrounded by a park. Nearby, on the Wimp, a tributary of the Grote Nete, is a water mill that has not been in use since 1846. The locks and the 19th century miller's house are worth a visit. It is wonderful to walk in the area surrounding the castle with large ponds. The castle itself is privately owned and not accessible. The domain and the watermill have been protected as a village scene and as a monument since 1986.
