Southborough Common sits on a sandstone spur and is a lovely, open woodland environment. The northern part of the common contains some majestic veteran oaks.
There are a range of habitats, from heathland, acid grassland, wood pasture, dense thickets and a pond. In its western reaches Whortleberry Wood boasts huge beech, interspersed with the occasional oak.
