Brda is the part of the hilly area of the Collio which is located in Slovenian territory. The hilly geographical area is located between the Isonzo river and its right tributary, the Iudrio. For its peculiarities it is defined as the Tuscany of Slovenia. The hills of Brda are scattered everywhere with villages, all surrounded by greenery, vineyards, orchards and olive groves, mostly arranged on terraces, in the middle of which winding roads and paths including the Path of Peace and the Alpe Adria Trail. The name of some Brda villages derives from oak species: Dobrovo from “dob”, English oak, Cerovo and Cerje from “cer”, Turkey oak, Gradno from “graden”, oak.

The typical local architecture with rustic wooden crates often inlaid, the 27 churches and small churches, castles and fortified villages make this area very interesting, able to satisfy even the most demanding visitor.

The views are magnificent in every direction and the food and wine is top notch.

This itinerary and the other two proposed here take advantage of some sections of the eight well-marked hiking trails (download map) which take their name from ancient varieties of Brda cherries; the network of cherry blossom paths has a development of over 80 km.

An interesting karst spring along the cycle path with railing protection.
