Dorothy Gate is a tribute to the writing of Dorothy Wordsworth and the impact she had on her brother, the famous poet William Worsworth. The gate's ash poles are inscribed with her observations of daffodils from a walk on 5th April 1802.

Their significance will be known to anyone who is familiar with William Wordsworth's famous 'The Daffodils', which clearly used Dorothy's observations as inspiration. One of Britain's favourite poems, it contains the immortal line 'I wandered lonely as a cloud.'
