During the 16th century, a highwayman by the name of Humphrey Kynaston lived in this cave. Far from being a down and out thief, Kynaston was the unruly and allegedly murderous son of the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Sir Roger Kynaston. He was outlawed after being found guilty of murder and abandoned his comfortable home to live in the cave.

Supposedly, he went on to live as a highwayman in the manner of Robin Hood; robbing the rich and donating to the poor.

An easily accessible and pleasant hiking trail awaits, offering ample shade and shelter courtesy of towering pine trees. The ascent to the summit rewards hikers with magnificent views, though weather conditions play a significant role in the experience. Don't miss the intriguing historical site known as Highwayman's Cave, where we stumbled upon graffiti from as far back as 1893! However, a cautionary note: in case of rain prior to your visit, ensure you equip yourself with sturdy footwear or Wellington boots for a more comfortable trek. Check out slope3.com

Sounds like a really cool hike! The story of the Robin Hood of Shropshire makes it even more exciting. I'll have to remember that next time I'm in the area! internetroadtrip.net
