The Sapün high valley is known for a cultural peculiarity that still exists today. The wonderful Walser village of Sapün Dörfji still stands there today. From the 13th century onwards, the Walser ethnic group settled at higher altitudes in the Alps to live and work as mountain farmers. The Walser built houses of a unique block house type that can still be seen in Sapün today.
