Lynchmere Common wouldn't be what it is today without the efforts of the Lynchmere Society, who launched a successful appeal in 1997 to restore the area to its lowland heath state. Scrub birch, scots pine and dense bracken had threatened to overwhelm this rare beauty spot. Today, along with Stanley and Marley Commons, it is a protected reserve.

In the winter months or after heavy rainfall, the common can be very muddy. During those warm afternoons in summer, keep your eyes peeled for the resident adders.
