At Demir Kapija the Vardar River Canyon becomes very narrow. The freeway and main road cross bridges that dig straight into long tunnels with narrow or no safe bike shoulders. An alternative is the small road on the town (west) side of the Vardar River which continues along the railroad, though it becomes very narrow and partially unpaved.
