The entrance to the Ober St Veiter cemetery is in Veitingergasse. Egon Schiele and his wife Edith found their final resting place here. Along with Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka, Schiele was one of the most important visual artists of Viennese modernism. Egon and Edith's lives ended tragically. The couple contracted the notorious Spanish flu in autumn 1918. Edith, six months pregnant, succumbed to the disease on October 28, her husband died just three days later at the age of 28.
