The Kent Estuary is a real treat for wildlife lovers. The mudflats and tidal sands create feeding grounds for all manner of birdlife, whilst native lizards can often be seen on the rocky headlands near Arnside.
On the northern shore, Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve is a peaceful place for an amble. It is an osprey nesting site; summer is the best time to see these majestic birds in flight. In winter, marsh harriers and hen harriers arrive during their great migrations.
