TV-Asahi Cherry Blossom Avenue (Mauerweg)

The Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival (Hanami = flower show) on the former border strip between the city of Teltow and the district border of Berlin-Lichterfelde

Once upon a time the Berlin Wall stood here. And the bald death strip with all its perfidious border security systems also separated here "East" and "West", separated the former GDR from the western part of Berlin, separated neighbors, families, friends and separated connections between landscapes, between countries.
Today, the paved Berlin Wall Trail is a popular route for residents, tourists and day trippers, and the death strip began to transform since the fall of the Wall in November 1989. At this point - between Lichterfelder Allee or Ostpreußendamm and Japan-Eck - the Berlin Wall Trail bears the name "TV-Asahi-Kirschblütenallee" and is lined with around 1,000 Japanese cherry trees.
To experience these trees in bloom is a unique experience. For about 2 - 3 weeks, at the end of April / beginning of May, this landscape is transformed into a pink ribbon under the blue of the sky.
