Built in the 13th century as a pele tower to keep watch for marauding Scots, this Elizabethan house, wonderful gardens and deer park make for a pleasant afternoon's amble.

After grabbing a slice of cake in the cafe, you may be tempted to explore the house itself. It's cheaper if you book your visit in advance. For more information, check out levenshall.co.uk
