Hiking
The Highway is an ancient trade route between Wensleydale and the Eden Valley. The Romans used it to transport goods and, in the 18th century, it was a major packhorse route used by tradesfolk from the towns of the Dales to the vibrant market town of Kendal in Cumbria.
On a clear day the views are glorious, as you stride across 6 miles (10 km) of continuously high country. Garsdale Head, Wensleydale and the prominent, flat-topped Addlebrough are seen beautifully. In mist, a stone wall to the left provides a navigational aid the whole way.
