The Emden drinking water fountain "Blue Planet" is a drinking water dispenser in the form of a bronze ball that is attached to a column. The fountain is a project by the French artist Véronique Millour. It was financed by donations and, in coordination and with the support of the city of Emden and the Emden Stadtwerke, was built on the bird pen of the Emden wall complex near the falcon nest.

On February 8, 2019, the artist, who lives in Lampaul-Ploudalmezeau near Brest, personally handed over the work of art to the city of Emden and met with the municipal employees and the initiators on the grounds of the BEE to discuss the further implementation and design to be discussed on site. The official inauguration of the fountain on Emder Wall will take place on May 4, 2019.

Véronique Millour developed the artistic idea for this worldwide project together with her husband Philippe Meffroy in order to raise awareness of the resource water and to bring drinking water wells, which in our time have almost completely disappeared from inhabited cities, back to the cities . The artist couple has created sculptures from bronze, stone, glass and wood in France and Italy. Since Philippe Meffroy's death in 2015, Véronique Millour has continued her artistic work alone.

The artist's goal is to build these special drinking water fountains in as many cities and towns in Europe as possible. Emden is the first city to address this issue with this type of installation.

The shape of the drinking water fountain should convey the following message:

"This is clean drinking water, which is a common property of all peoples of the earth. We humans are responsible for it and must act in solidarity to preserve it - water is life." Source: emden.de
