At the end of 1945, 20 ladies and gentlemen, including seven whiteeren, gathered in Heeswijk Abbey to found the Heeswijk Art Circle. Within a year this company was given the name Kersouwe, old Brabant for "madeliefje". The Kunstkring quickly took the decision to perform an open-air play in 1946. By opting for open-air theater instead of indoor theater, it was also possible to play mixed. At the time, there was a strict episcopal rule in this region that stated that only one association per parish could play mixed in a hall. Mixed open-air performances were allowed by the bishops if they ended before sunset.

Nowadays you can watch all kinds of theater performances.
