An extraordinary site whose name betrays history. In the 16th century, the Rulles valley was an ideal place for the development of industrial activities: it provided wood as an essential fuel for the manufacture of iron and water for hydraulic energy. Today, this site is a little gem where nature has taken back its rights.

As an indication, the first industrial buildings constructed on the Trappery Estate were built more than 400 years ago. It was Herman Trappé, former mayor of Liège, who received the authorization to build a factory on the course of the Rulles, a river that flows on the right bank of the Semois.
In the 16th century, the Rulles valley was a blessing for those who wanted to develop an industrial activity: it brought wood and water. Wood as an indispensable fuel for the manufacture of iron and water for the hydraulic energy it could bring. Five factories were built with only a few kilometers between each of them. And for more than 200 years, the region was a real industrial pole at the origin of the development of the two Habay and the whole Rulles valley.
Today, these rather extraordinary sites full of history are small jewels where nature has taken back its rights. If the domain of the Château de la Trapperie is private, and therefore forbidden to the public, you can go for long walks all around the site and observe the fauna and flora that has developed there while taking a good breath of fresh air.
