Lord George Bentinck was a talented politician who at one point was touted as a potential prime minister. Although this did not come to pass, he did sponsor Benjamin Disraeli's bid to become a member of parliament. Sadly, he did not live to see Disraeli become the head of state.
The fine lodge is one of many built by the Duke of Portland. Across the road is the memorial to Lord Bentinck, who was the 5th duke's brother.
