Great medieval town with cafes, restaurants, camping, swimming pool, zoo and many more.

Castle walls and towers are still partially preserved and there is a great story to conquer the city

Very nice little town with a historic town center.

The medieval town of Gangelt, in the extreme west of Germany between the Meuse and the Rhine, has changed little in appearance over the centuries. Gangelt was first mentioned in a document in 828 as the royal estate of Charlemagne. The biographer Einhard reports that in 828 a woman came with her eight-year-old daughter to Charlemagne's private chapel and prayed in front of the relics of the "holy martyrs Peter and Marcellini" kept there. The girl is after it

been healed from paralysis. This healing has entered the literature as "the miracle of Gangelt".

Two town gates, the restored tower of the former castle and the remains of the town wall belong to the fortifications of the 15th century and point to an eventful history of the town.

The St. Nikolaus church lying on a hill, built of Maastricht sand-lime brick (12th-15th century), a Gothic basilica with a baptismal font (14th century) and a late-Gothic, Maasland-influenced crucifixion group (around 1500).

Beautiful city gates and a lot of history.
