The Independence Monument of Turkmenistan is one of the largest and most extravagant of its kind in the whole world. The memorial extends over an area of more than 80,000 m2 and is located in the middle of a landscape park with numerous water fountains and pools. Given its extravagance, many visitors forget that it is in a city and surrounding region that is prone to water scarcity.
