Among the heath monasteries, Moningen Monastery near Bad Bevensen stands out for its pretty, late Baroque and partly early Classicist architecture. It is the result of a major fire that destroyed almost all monastic buildings in 1781. The circular dome of the church and the baroque church tower of the present complex were inaugurated in 1787. At that time the monastery was already Protestant. Thus, Monastery Medingen is the only monastery of Protestantism in northern Germany. Only the historic brewery and slavery house of 1397 survived the devastating fire. The monastery was founded in 1228, since 1336, the plant, which was originally built in the style of brick Gothic, located at its present location. From 1264 rights to the Lüneburg Saline brought him prosperity, which is still visible today in some important art treasures of the monastery. These include an abbess's staff of 1494, a 15th-century golden reliquary of Saint Mauritius, a 16th-century goblin, and silver, porcelain, and medieval chests and cabinets.Source:
