Colorful fern forest in Die Haard

The Haard on the edge of the Ruhr areaThe Haard is a 5,500-hectare, self-contained forest area on the edge of the Ruhr area and belongs to the Hohe Mark Nature Park. The popular local recreation area lies between Haltern am See in the north, Recklinghausen in the south, while Marl in the west and Olfen in the east form the borders. Mainly pine forests can be found here, but oak and birch also have their home on the sandy subsoil. There are also some very beautiful wetlands hidden in the valleys, such as the Flaesheim quarry in the northeast between Haard and the Wesel-Datteln Canal.
With its wooded hills, sandy valleys and green clearings, the Haard not only offers walkers a place to relax from the stress of the big city, but also those who like it more sporty are in good hands here.
