Very good restaurant, the ore mine. We recommend the Grubentöpfle.

Here the miners of the iron and steel works quenched their hunger and thirst. At that time there was an "Erzhäusle" at this point, so that "the miners could eat the dear bread trucken". However, this "little house" was quite small and modestly furnished. But in 1754 a larger house was built, which even had "a wooden clock with a metal bell".

At the beginning of the last century, the official land register reports: The house has two wings, has an extension and is one floor high, made of wood, with a small turret, simply covered with panels (the turret with sheet metal). It contains a living room, chamber, kitchen, pantry and an attic.

Exactly 100 years ago, a new house, today's Saalbau, was added, at the north-east corner of which there is still a tunnel. Around 1840, beer was served here to the miners for the first time.

The then "Hutmann", as the residents of the house were called, was the founder and the first host of the forest inn.
The smelting works itself received the concession in 1908 and leased the business until 1909. Under Merk, it was then continued as an in-house operation and leased again from 1929.

But the ravages of time gnawed at this building, too. So in the spring of 1956 the old house was demolished and rebuilt. The hall construction was also given a new lease of life.

In the fall of 1973, the entire property was renovated by the new owner, Karl Hägele.

Even with its name, the "Erzgrube" keeps alive the memory of the centuries-old ore mining on Braunenberg.
