The parish of Krapina is considered to be one of the oldest parishes in Zagorje. That there was a church in Krapina "sancti Nikolai de Crapina" is first mentioned in the writings of the Bishop of Zagreb Augustin Kažotić from July 6, 1311.

Although there are no older monuments, we still believe that the parish was founded in 1225 because King Bela IV lived in Krapina that year.

It is not known who once had the right of patronage over the parish. From 1609, the collators were Counts Keglevići, who in the 18th century sold their Krapina estates to Stjepan Count Oršić.

The son of this family, Franjo Count Oršić, was the parish priest in Krapina from 1782 to 1793. He built today's parish court with its outbuildings.

The records of the canonical visitations do not record when the first parish church was built, but we find it recorded that on the site of the present parish church from ancient times stood a church built in the Gothic style. It was all brick, the roof was made of wooden planks, and the terrace was made of brick. Pastor Nikola Gorup gave it in 1747. pave the stone slabs. Since the church was too small, in 1901. was demolished and built according to the designs of Josip Vancaš, the current one in the neo-Gothic style for 92,000 crowns. It was built in less than two years (from November 2, 1901, when the foundation stone was laid, to September 27, 1903, when it was consecrated).
