The monastery got its name from the neighboring city called Sinaia.
The monastery consists of two courtyards surrounded by low buildings. In the middle of each courtyard there is a small church in the style of Brâncovenesc. One of them, the Biserica Veche (the old church) dates from 1695. The other, the Biserica Mare (the big church) was built in 1846.
The monks have a library with valuable jewelry from the Cantacuzène family and the first translation of the Bible into Romanian from 1668.
