The juniper heath is tended by the shepherd and his sheep. Depending on the season, a variety of plants typical of the Alb bloom here, such as pasque flowers, gentians, orchids, and others. It's beautiful to look at, and offers wonderful opportunities for hikes and walks.

The Digelfeld is a nature reserve, where rare orchids bloom in the summer on the heathland and ground-nesting birds such as the woodlark still find breeding opportunities.
That's why you should stay on the path here and not enter the meadow/heathland landscape off the path.

The Digelfeld is home to the largest contiguous juniper heath in the Swabian Alb biosphere reserve. It covers around 121 hectares. The juniper heath is "maintained" by the shepherd and his sheep. Depending on the season, a wide variety of plants typical of the Alb bloom here, such as pasqueflowers, gentians, orchids, etc.In addition, 266 animal species have been identified in the Digelfeld, 84 of which are protected and 19 are on the Red List of endangered or highly endangered species.
