Location and history: The blue hole is located in the western Schurwald in the municipality of Kernen in Remstal, not far from the Beiburg hiking car park near the allotment gardens of Rommelshausen.
The blue hole is a clearing that was previously used as a small pasture for sheep and goats. Shepherds who were on the move also set up camp there again and again. There was fresh spring water from a small well a little further up to the east.
Today the “blue hole” is a very popular game and barbecue area with lots of equipment for the children.
The name blue hole is not really well documented: But if you are there at certain hours of the morning or evening and the sun is not yet or no longer over the trees, then the clearing has a bluish tint due to the sky. This could have been decisive for the naming.
