If you are looking for some relaxation at Steinberger See, you should also take a look at Knappensee.

The lake itself was created after the lignite mining in the region was dissolved. It served as a red mud depository in the 1970s and 1980s. However, the water quality could apparently be stabilized by neutralization measures.

For a few years now, a well-walked circular path has led around the lake, but it gets quite steep in some places and is therefore not always suitable for wheelchair users - they have to use a more extensive route or limit themselves to the tarred northeast side. In some places there are benches that invite you to linger and ponder, or even groups of seats where you can picnic while you have a beautiful view over the lake. There are some information boards along the route that give you an insight into the fauna and flora of the area.

Since the path is continuously in the forest, it is particularly suitable for hot summer days.
