St. Amandus Church received its current external appearance during the reconstruction after 1948/1949. Only the old tower in the north-west of the church from 1250 and the new tower in the south-east of the church from 1913 were spared from the bombing raids and bear witness to the eventful (construction) history of our parish church.

A fundamental redesign of the interior took place in 1983/1984. During this renovation, the current altar island in the crossing and the choir area behind it were created, among other things. In 1988 a new organ was consecrated. The interior was renovated in 2012.

The St. Amandus Church was the parish church of the original parish of St. Amandus and has been the parish church of the newly established parish of St. Amandus Datteln since the merger of the three parishes of St. Amandus Datteln, St. Josef (Hagem) and St. Marien (Ahsen).
