At Margaretenstein (685 m) you stand on the border between the districts of Olpe and Wittgenstein, the former state border between the Electoral Cologne Duchy of Westphalia and the County of Wittgenstein-Berleburg.
After more than 200 years of dispute, there was a final agreement between Cologne and Wittgenstein on the demarcation of the border in 1694. At that time, 20 boundary stones were set between Margaretenstein and Dreiherrenstein, of which 18 are still preserved today.
